Zypper uses envelope budgeting
Zypper budgets with the envelope method (also called zero-based budgeting): money you receive lands in an Unassigned pool, and you assign it to categories — the envelopes — until every dollar has a job. A category's budget is money you've actually assigned, so the plan always matches reality.
Setting up
- Go to your budget page
- Assign money from Unassigned to your categories — rent, groceries, savings, debt payments
- As transactions arrive and are categorized, each category shows what you've spent against what you assigned
Categories come in types — income, spending, savings, debt, and transfer — and you can customize them fully.
Keeping it effortless
Zypper can fund your categories for you — see Auto balance. When a category overspends, move money into it from another category rather than abandoning the plan; the point of envelopes is that trade-offs are explicit.
