What happens when your bank reports new accounts on an existing connection

Managing accounts

adding newly available accounts what happens when your bank reports new accounts on an existing connection zypper detects new accounts automatically when you open a new account at a bank you've already connected — a new savings account, a new card — zypper detects that it's available on your existing connection and notifies you. you choose whether to add it; nothing is added without you. adding them open settings › connections , find the institution, and add the newly available accounts. they start syncing like any other connected account. if you'd rather not track a new account, dismiss it — you can always add it later from the same place.

How auto set proposes budget amounts from your transaction history, what it shows you before it runs, and what it replaces

Budgeting & categories

auto set how auto set proposes budget amounts from your transaction history, what it shows you before it runs, and what it replaces auto set proposes amounts from your history rather than deciding every number yourself, auto set fills in your income and spending categories in one step from the budget page. it reads what you've actually earned and spent in each category and sets budget amounts to match. you can also run it for one side only, using auto set income or auto set spending from the heading of either section. what it looks at auto set analyzes your recent transaction history — the last three months , or as much of that as you have, extended to whole billing cycles for categories that don't recur monthly — to find your average income and spending per category. it also keeps the scalable part of the plan achievable: when your non-critical categories and the flex pool together average more than your income leaves after your savings budget and critical categories, those amounts are scaled down to fit. critical categories are set to their full averages rather than scaled, and your savings budget and any amounts you've set for specific months are kept, so the total can still come out above your income. you see every amount before it's written auto set is a bulk change, and it shows you the result first. the confirmation lists each category with its current and proposed amount, changed rows first, with the rest collapsed under show n unchanged amounts . the flex shared budget appears as one row. below the list it names the month the amounts apply from. - replaced — the ongoing amounts of income and spending categories, from the current month forward. where you'd scheduled a later change for a category, its row says how many scheduled changes the new amount replaces. - kept — amounts you've set for specific months, which survive untouched. a category budgeted every three months or longer with no activity in its window is also left as it is, since zypper can't tell a bill that drifted a few days from one that stopped. if your transactions change between opening the preview and clicking confirm , auto set asks you to check the new amounts and confirm again rather than writing something you didn't see. adjusting afterward auto set is a starting point, not a lock-in. every amount stays editable — click any category's amount on the budget page and change it, or turn on rollover for categories where unspent money should accumulate. see creating your budget for how amounts, month-specific overrides, and rollover work.

What to do when you cannot find your bank or institution in the search

Troubleshooting

bank not listed what to do when you cannot find your bank or institution in the search search variations first institution names in the connection search come from plaid, and they don't always match the name on your card or statements. try the full legal name, the abbreviated name, and the name of the parent company many credit unions and regional banks are listed under a parent brand . if it's genuinely not available some institutions don't support connections yet. in the meantime: - track it as a manual account so its balance still counts toward your net worth — and toward your budget, if you choose to include it there - contact support and tell us which institution you're missing — coverage expands over time, and we can confirm whether yours is on the way

Seeing income versus spending over time, broken down by category or merchant

Cash flow & net worth

cash flow seeing income versus spending over time, broken down by category or merchant what cash flow shows the cash flow page charts your income versus spending over time , so you can see whether you're ahead or behind for any period. pick the time range you care about — this month, last quarter, the year. three ways to break it down cash flow can be grouped by category , by category group , or by merchant — each row drills into its own detail view with a chart and the underlying transactions. category answers "what am i spending on?"; merchant answers "who am i giving money to?". controlling what counts by default, movements between your own accounts that zypper has linked don't count as income or spending. cash flow settings let you choose how transfers are treated — including which transfer categories to show — so the picture matches how you think about your money. amounts always come from your categorized transactions, so accurate categorization helped by rules keeps cash flow accurate. cash flow counts spending differently from your budget, so the two totals often differ; see why spending and budget totals differ.

Where to see the health of your bank connections and how to refresh them

Connecting your accounts

checking connection status and refreshing where to see the health of your bank connections and how to refresh them where to check your connections go to settings and open the connections tab. each institution shows its current status, the accounts it provides, and when it last updated. connections sync daily connected accounts sync automatically every day — you don't need to do anything to keep data flowing. if you want the very latest data right now, use the refresh action on a connection or refresh all connections at once and zypper will pull fresh balances and transactions. when a connection needs attention if a connection shows as expired or needing attention, your bank has ended the login session and zypper can no longer sync it. this is routine — banks expire connections periodically for security. see fixing an expired or broken connection to reconnect in a few clicks.

How to link your financial accounts to Zypper, and how syncing works

connecting your bank accounts how to link your financial accounts to zypper, and how syncing works zypper connects through plaid zypper links to your financial institutions through plaid , the same connectivity service used by major financial apps. when you connect an account, you sign in on your bank's own screen inside the secure plaid window — your bank credentials are never seen or stored by zypper . connecting an account 1. go to settings and open the connections tab 2. choose your bank or search for it by name 3. sign in through the secure plaid window and pick which accounts to share once connected, your transactions and balances sync automatically every day , and you can trigger a manual refresh anytime from the connections tab. what happens after you connect your accounts appear in your dashboard, recent transactions import and are categorized automatically, and your balances start feeding your net worth. checking, savings, and credit card accounts also feed your budget and cash flow. historical data fills in gradually over the first minutes after connecting. if your bank doesn't appear in the search, see bank not listed. you can also track anything by hand with manual accounts.

Setting a monthly amount for each category, changing it for one month or from a month forward, budgeting on a non-monthly cadence, and reading Left to budget

creating your budget setting a monthly amount for each category, changing it for one month or from a month forward, budgeting on a non-monthly cadence, and reading left to budget your budget is a monthly amount per category you give each category a monthly amount, and zypper tracks what you've spent against it. the budget page shows one month at a time: budgeted is the amount you set, spent is what your transactions in that category add up to, and the bar between them shows how far through the amount you are and whether you're on pace for the month. income categories work the same way: you set what you expect to earn, and earned shows what has actually come in. there's no pool of money to divide up first, and nothing has to add to zero. nothing moves money between categories, so a category is never "funded" or "unfunded" — it is only under or over its amount. a category you haven't given an amount to is treated as a $0 budget . setting an amount 1. open the budget page 2. click a category's amount in the budgeted column and type the number you want 3. press enter or click away to save while the amount box is focused, a history panel shows what you spent last month earned last month for income and your monthly average , with a chart of the last four months. click either figure, or a bar in the chart, to use it as the amount. budget amounts are whole numbers — they're planning figures, not ledger figures. changing an amount from a month forward, or for one month only under the history panel is a checkbox, apply to month forward , and it is checked by default. - checked — the new amount applies from the month you're viewing onward, until you change it again. earlier months keep the amounts they had, so changing a budget today doesn't rewrite your history. - unchecked — only the month you're viewing changes. use this when a single month is genuinely different — a larger grocery budget in december — without touching the rest. a month-specific amount stays in place even if you later change the ongoing amount. to drop it, view that month and type the ongoing amount back in, or clear the box with the checkbox unchecked. if an ongoing change would run over months you've customized, or over a change you've already scheduled for a later month, zypper asks first. overwrite month and later? lists what it would replace. leave these months unchanged is checked by default and keeps your month-specific amounts; scheduled later changes are always replaced by the new one. clearing the box means $0 when the checkbox is checked, and "go back to the ongoing amount" for that month when it's unchecked. the edit category dialog hover a row and click the gear edit category for the category's full settings. besides its name, emoji, and group, the dialog holds everything about its budget: - spending amount and spending frequency — every month, every week, every three months, every six months, or every year. income categories offer twice per month, every two weeks, every week, and every month. - flex budget spending categories — share one amount with your other flex categories; see flex spending. income categories have a variable switch instead, for income with an unpredictable amount or frequency. - roll over unspent budget spending categories — carry what's left into the next month; see rolling over unspent budget. - exclude from the budget — stop tracking the category in your budget; see excluding transactions from your budget. amount changes made in this dialog always apply from the current month forward, whichever month you happen to be viewing — the dialog says so under the amount. the amount box in the row is the place for month-specific changes. budgeting on a non-monthly cadence categories that aren't monthly can be budgeted on their real cadence. pick a spending frequency in edit category and enter the full amount for each occurrence — $300 every three months, $1,200 a year. the dialog shows the monthly equivalent , and you can edit either figure. the row's subtitle then reads at that cadence "$300 every three months" , while the month is tracked at the monthly equivalent so it sits alongside everything else. choosing a cadence longer than a month turns on roll over unspent budget for you, since the budget has to accumulate between occurrences. you can turn it back off, but each month then only has its monthly share. viewing other months use the arrows beside the month name or the left and right arrow keys to move between months. you can look back two years further when a rollover balance started earlier than that and ahead twelve months . away from the current month, a viewing month banner appears with go to current or press t . past months show what was budgeted and spent at the time. future months show the amounts that will apply; their rollover balances assume you spend nothing more between now and then. you can set an amount in any month you can view, and an ongoing change applies from that month forward. left to budget above the category list, left to budget is your expected income minus everything you've budgeted for spending, including the flex shared budget, with every amount standardized to a monthly figure. rollover balances aren't included. a negative figure means you've planned to spend more than you expect to earn — nothing stops you, but it's the number to watch while adjusting amounts. common questions do i have to budget every category? no. a category with no amount is treated as a $0 budget — anything you spend in it still counts toward the month's total, and the category shows as over. budget the ones you want to watch. what happens if i go over? nothing breaks and nothing needs rebalancing. the category shows as over, and the summary at the top of the page reflects it. see tracking your spending pace for what the colors and captions mean. can zypper set the amounts for me? yes — see auto set, which proposes amounts from your transaction history. why doesn't a group's budgeted total match its rows? the group total includes rollover balances carried into the month, while each row's box shows the amount you set. a category that rolls over can have more or less available than its box says. do pending transactions count? yes. a transaction counts toward spent as soon as it arrives, whether it's pending or posted. where do i change a category's name, type, or group? in settings › categories — see customizing categories and groups. the edit category dialog on the budget page can rename a category too, and move a spending category between spending groups.

How Zypper's automatic credit report insights and score improvement recommendations work

Credit reports

credit report insights and score recommendations how zypper's automatic credit report insights and score improvement recommendations work every report comes with personalized insights each time zypper retrieves your credit report, we automatically analyze it and generate personalized insights alongside the report itself. insights highlight the facts and patterns that matter in your report — things like your credit usage, payment history, account mix, inquiries, and negative marks — and each one shows whether it's helping or hurting your credit, so you know exactly where you stand at a glance. if you just received a new report, give it a minute or two — insights can take a moment to finish generating. where insights come from insights are built from your own report data combined with the score factors the credit bureaus supply — the bureaus' own indication of what's affecting your score the most. that grounding is what makes the insights specific to your report rather than generic credit advice. score improvement recommendations alongside insights, zypper generates score improvement recommendations : concrete, actionable steps you can take to improve your credit health, based on what your report shows is actually holding your score back. recommendations focus on the moves likely to matter most for you — not a one-size-fits-all checklist. they update with every refresh you get fresh insights and recommendations with every new credit report — your first report, and every refresh after that. reports refresh every 30 days see credit report refresh schedule , so your insights keep up with your report. view your latest insights and recommendations from your dashboard.

Report refresh schedule and why you can't refresh early

credit report refresh schedule report refresh schedule and why you can't refresh early you can refresh your report every 30 days zypper gives you a full refresh of your credit report and scores every 30 days . depending on your credit plan, each report covers all three bureaus transunion, experian, and equifax or a single bureau equifax — the essentials plan covers money tools and doesn't include credit reports. when your next refresh becomes available — 30 days after your last report — you can request it from your dashboard, and we'll also email you to let you know a refresh is ready. you can turn these emails on or off in your notification settings. you can't refresh earlier than 30 days after your previous report, so if the refresh option isn't available yet, that's why — check the refresh date shown in your dashboard. why a recent change may not appear yet two common reasons: - the next refresh hasn't been pulled yet. the change will appear when you refresh after your 30-day availability date. - the lender hasn't reported it yet. lenders typically report to the bureaus once a month, so a payment made this week may take several weeks to appear at the bureaus at all — on zypper or anywhere else. if your report differs from what you see directly at a bureau's own site, it's usually a timing difference between when each service pulled the data. if your report won't load at all, see troubleshooting credit report loading and identity verification.

Creating, editing, archiving, and organizing categories to match how you spend, and what those changes do to your budget

customizing categories and groups creating, editing, archiving, and organizing categories to match how you spend, and what those changes do to your budget categories are fully yours zypper starts you with a sensible default set, but every category can be changed and new ones created. a category has a name and an emoji , and lives inside a category group , which has a color and a type — income, spending, savings, or transfer — that its categories share. groups organize your budget and reports. managing categories everything happens in settings › categories : - create a category in any group, with its own emoji - edit any category — rename it or restyle it, and move a spending or savings category to another group of the same type - archive a category you no longer use — it disappears from pickers, while its transaction history stays intact; unarchive anytime - delete a category permanently — its transactions are reassigned to another category of the same type that you choose. for a savings category that's optional: without a replacement, they go back to counting toward their primary category - reorganize groups — create groups and arrange categories to match how you actually think about your money category changes flow through everywhere: your budget, cash flow breakdowns, filters, and rules. budget settings live on the budget page an income or spending category's budget amount and frequency — and, for a spending category, its flex setting and rollover — are edited on the budget page: hover the row and click the gear edit category . that dialog can also rename the category and, for a spending category, move it to another spending group. see creating your budget. exclude from the budget is available in both places for income and spending categories. archiving and deleting apply to every month of your budget your budget reads category structure as it stands today and applies it to every month you can view, past ones included. - archiving a category stops the budget counting it in every month, so a rollover balance that included it changes; the archive dialog says so. its transactions still appear in the transaction list, cash flow, and reports. a flex category's history leaves the flex pool the same way, and unarchiving puts it back. - deleting a category moves its transactions to the replacement you choose, which then counts them in every month. a savings category can be deleted without a replacement; its transactions then go back to their primary category. - a category that a rule assigns transactions to can't be archived, and a category a rule refers to at all can't be deleted, until you change the rule. the last income, spending, or transfer category can't be archived either. see rolling over unspent budget for how balances are rebuilt after a change like this.

Renaming accounts, controlling budget inclusion, and the difference between removing an account and a connection

editing and removing accounts renaming accounts, controlling budget inclusion, and the difference between removing an account and a connection editing an account from your accounts list you can: - rename an account so it reads the way you think of it - include or exclude it from your budget — the include in the budget setting controls whether the account's balance and transactions contribute to your budget. excluded accounts still count toward net worth, but their transactions don't affect budgeting — see excluding transactions from your budget removing an account vs. removing a connection these are different actions with different consequences: - removing a single account deletes that account and its data from zypper, while the rest of the accounts from the same bank stay connected. - removing a connection disconnects the entire institution — every account it provides stops syncing. if an account merely isn't useful for budgeting, prefer excluding it from your budget over deleting it — you keep the history and the net worth contribution.

Editing and removing accounts

Excluding a single transaction or a whole account from your budget, and how transfers between your own accounts are handled

excluding transactions from your budget excluding a single transaction or a whole account from your budget, and how transfers between your own accounts are handled not every transaction should count reimbursed work expenses, money moved between your own accounts, one-off oddities — some transactions shouldn't count against your budget. zypper gives you control at two levels, and handles a third case automatically. excluding a single transaction every transaction has a budget impact setting with two states: normal , which is the default, and excluded from the budget . an excluded transaction still appears in your transaction list and still counts toward your account balance and net worth — it just doesn't count as spending or income in any budget figure. its category's spent total and the summary at the top of the budget page both ignore it. if the transaction is a payment in a recurring group, that cycle's bill drops out of the budget along with it. when you split a transaction, each part carries its own exclude from the budget setting, so you can keep the part that's genuinely yours and drop the part that isn't. excluding a whole account an account can be left out of budgeting entirely with the include in the budget setting — see editing and removing accounts. its balance still contributes to net worth, but none of its transactions reach your budget. this suits accounts whose activity isn't day-to-day spending, such as a business account or one you only use for investments. transfers are handled for you money you move between your own accounts isn't income or spending, and doesn't need excluding by hand. when two transactions are recognized as the two sides of one transfer, zypper treats them as a movement rather than as budget activity — see splitting and linking transactions. common questions does excluding a transaction change my balances? no. exclusion affects budget figures only. account balances and net worth are unchanged. can i exclude a category rather than a transaction? yes — turn on exclude from the budget for the category in settings › categories or in the budget page's edit category dialog, which leaves out everything categorized under it in every month. its budget settings are kept for when you include it again. a flex category leaves the flex pool while it's excluded, and its whole spending history goes with it. will an excluded transaction still show in my reports? yes. it remains in your transaction list and in spending reports; it's the budget that leaves it out. that's one reason cash flow's spending total can be higher than your budget's — see why spending and budget totals differ.

Excluding transactions from your budget

Reconnecting a bank whose login expired or stopped syncing

fixing an expired or broken connection reconnecting a bank whose login expired or stopped syncing why connections expire banks periodically end app connections for security — after a password change, enabled two-factor authentication, or simply a security policy at the bank. when that happens the connection shows as expired and stops syncing. your data in zypper is untouched; only the live feed is paused. we'll also email you when a connection expires you can manage that in notification settings . reconnecting 1. go to settings › connections 2. find the connection marked as needing attention and choose to reconnect 3. sign in to your bank through the secure plaid window reconnecting resumes syncing on the same accounts — history and categorization are preserved, and missed transactions backfill. if reconnecting keeps failing try again after a few minutes — banks sometimes have temporary outages. if it still fails, remove the connection and connect the institution fresh, or contact support and we'll dig in.

Sharing one budget across your Flex categories, editing the shared amount, and what changes when a category joins or leaves Flex

flex spending sharing one budget across your flex categories, editing the shared amount, and what changes when a category joins or leaves flex flex categories share one budget some spending doesn't divide neatly into separate amounts — dining out, coffee, entertainment, and small purchases tend to trade off against each other. mark those categories as flex and they stop having individual budgets: they all draw from one shared flex budget , while their transactions stay categorized separately so you can still see where the money actually went. every household has one shared budget. it appears as a flex card at the top of the spending section on the budget page as soon as one category is flex, and disappears — keeping its settings — when none is. making a category flex 1. hover the category on the budget page and click the gear edit category 2. turn on flex budget 3. click save only spending categories can be flex. a flex category that is archived, or excluded from the budget, leaves the shared budget until it's restored. turning flex on moves the category's whole spending history into the shared budget: past months and the shared budget's rollover balance change right away, and the category's own amount and rollover settings are kept but stop counting. turning flex off puts them back. the switch says so in the dialog. editing the shared budget the flex card starts with a shared budget row 🪣 by default; you can rename it and choose another emoji . its amount box works like any category's: type an amount, and choose whether it applies from this month forward or to this month only — see creating your budget. hover the row and click the gear edit shared flex budget for the full editor: icon & name , amount , a frequency of every month or every week, and roll over unspent budget with its own rolling over since month and starting balance , which carry what's left of flex spending into the next month — see rolling over unspent budget. amount changes in this editor apply from the current month forward. reading the flex card - the card header shows how many categories are flex, the total they've spent, and the shared budget available this month. - each member row shows that category's own spending and flex in place of an amount. its bar is drawn against the shared budget and colored by the shared budget's status, so one category can fill only a little of its bar while the group as a whole is out of money. - click a member row for its panel: the category's own spending, with the group's position beside it — left in flex , over in flex , or short in flex . - click the shared budget row for the group's own panel, with the combined pace bar, its rollover equation, the transactions across all flex categories, and the shared budget's own changes. a category joining or leaving flex is recorded in that category's activity tab. bills in flex categories recurring bills in flex categories count against the shared budget the way bills count against a category. when the shared budget rolls over, part of its carried balance is set aside for members' bills that come less often than monthly — see recurring bills in your budget. common questions does flex change how transactions are categorized? no. each transaction keeps its own category, and cash flow and reports break flex categories out individually. only the budget treats them as one. how does auto set treat flex? it proposes one shared amount from the members' combined history, scaled alongside your other non-critical categories. see auto set. where did a category's rollover balance go when i made it flex? it stopped counting, and comes back when the category leaves flex. no balance is transferred: the shared budget recalculates its own balance from the members' spending history and its own amounts.

How couple plans and billing work, and how to add someone to your household

Households & couples

inviting your partner or family member how couple plans and billing work, and how to add someone to your household how couple plans work a couple plan covers two people under one subscription . the person who owns the plan the household owner is the only one billed — the person you invite is never charged and doesn't need a subscription of their own. both of you get full access to everything in the plan , each through your own separate login: your own credit reports and scores, plus the money tools you share as a household. for plan options and pricing, see plans, pricing, and billing. sending an invitation invitations are sent by the household owner from the dashboard: 1. go to settings lower left corner 2. open the members tab 3. enter the email address of the person you'd like to invite 4. they'll receive an invitation by email — they need to open that email and accept the invitation what the other person gets once they accept, they sign in with their own email address and get their own private login under your plan — you don't share a password or an inbox. - credit is individual. each person verifies their own identity with the credit bureaus and gets their own credit reports and scores. you can't view or pull someone else's credit report for them, since credit reports are tied to each individual's verified identity. - money tools are shared. connected financial accounts, transactions, and budgets belong to your household, so you both work from the same picture. common questions does the other person pay anything? no. billing stays with the household owner — one subscription, one charge, covering both of you. the couple plan is paid for, but the partner's info isn't visible. that's expected: each member sees their own credit report under their own login. if your partner hasn't joined yet, send them an invite from settings › members. the person i invited already has their own zypper subscription. they'll need to cancel their own subscription and let it run out first. even then, if they've used the money tools on their own account, they'll hit an error when accepting — contact support and we'll help move them over. i'm on an individual plan and want to add someone. switch to a couple plan from your dashboard settings first, then send your invite from the members tab.

Editing, categorizing, searching, and bulk-updating your transactions

Transactions

managing and reviewing transactions editing, categorizing, searching, and bulk-updating your transactions everything is editable every synced transaction can be edited from the transactions page: change its category , rename the merchant , add tags and notes , or adjust how it counts toward your budget. zypper categorizes transactions automatically as they arrive; your edits always win over the automatic choice. the one exception is pending transactions: until a transaction posts, its date, review status, and budget settings are locked. finding transactions search by keyword, or filter by account, amount, category, date range, merchant, tag, review status, or recurring group — filters combine, so you can answer questions like "uncategorized transactions over $100 this month" in a few clicks. bulk editing select multiple transactions to change their category, tags, or other fields in one action. bulk changes can be undone immediately after applying if the result isn't what you expected. the review workflow transaction review is off by default . turn it on with the transaction review switch under settings › preferences; the setting is per person, so each member of a household chooses for themselves. with review on, newly synced transactions wait for a look — useful when you want to confirm categorization on new activity. a review transactions button on the dashboard and on the transactions page shows how many are waiting and narrows the list to them. mark them reviewed as you go, or mark everything matching your current filters reviewed at once, and use the review-status filter to see what's still waiting. with review off, the review button, the review-status filter, and the review controls on each transaction are hidden. nothing is lost: what you had already marked reviewed stays recorded, and turning review back on picks up where you left off. to make your categorization automatic going forward, set up transaction rules.

Tracking accounts and assets by hand when a live connection is not available

manual accounts tracking accounts and assets by hand when a live connection is not available what a manual account is a manual account is one you create and update yourself instead of syncing through a bank connection. use one for anything without a live connection — property, a vehicle, cash, a private loan, or an account at an institution zypper can't connect to yet. creating a manual account from your accounts page, add a new account, give it a name, and choose whether it should count toward your budget. its balance is whatever you set — update it whenever the real value changes. how manual accounts behave manual accounts appear alongside connected ones and count toward your net worth. because there's no live feed, transactions and balances only change when you change them. if your institution later becomes connectable, you can connect it and remove the manual account.

Why a transaction may not have appeared yet and how to get current data

missing or delayed transactions why a transaction may not have appeared yet and how to get current data the usual cause: normal posting delays a new purchase starts as pending at your bank and typically takes 1–3 business days to post. some banks share pending transactions right away — those show up in zypper marked as pending — while others report a transaction only once it posts. either way, a transaction made today often appears in zypper a day or two later. this is bank-side timing, not data loss. what to check 1. refresh the connection from settings › connections to pull the latest data — accounts also sync automatically every day. 2. check the connection status. an expired connection stops new transactions entirely until you reconnect. 3. check the account is added. if the transaction is in an account you never added to zypper — say, a newly opened account — add the account itself. if transactions are still missing days after posting at your bank, contact support with the account and date and we'll investigate.

How Zypper computes and charts your net worth over time

net worth tracking how zypper computes and charts your net worth over time one number for your whole financial picture net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. zypper computes it from all your accounts — bank balances, investments, property, and vehicles on the asset side; credit cards and loans on the liability side — and charts it over time so you can see the trend, not just today's number. what's included every account in zypper counts: connected accounts update automatically every day, and manual accounts contribute whatever balance you've set. that's why it's worth adding manual accounts for assets you can't connect — without them, your net worth reads low. keeping it accurate if the number looks off, check for accounts you haven't added yet, manual balances that need updating, or a connection that's expired and stopped syncing.

Using tags to label transactions across categories

organizing transactions with tags using tags to label transactions across categories tags cut across categories categories answer "what kind of spending was this?" — tags answer everything else: a vacation, a reimbursable work expense, a home renovation project. a transaction has exactly one category but can carry any number of tags , so tags are how you track things that span many categories. using tags create a tag with its own color the first time you need it, right from the transaction editor. then: - add one or more tags to any transaction - filter the transactions page by tag to see everything with that label and its total - apply tags in bulk to many transactions at once - add tags automatically with transaction rules rename, recolor, or delete tags anytime from settings › tags — deleting a tag removes the label, never the transactions.

How detected bills count against your budget before and after they're paid, and how money is set aside for bills that come less often than monthly

recurring bills in your budget how detected bills count against your budget before and after they're paid, and how money is set aside for bills that come less often than monthly bills count before they're paid zypper detects recurring payments — subscriptions, utilities, insurance — from your transactions. on the budget page, a bill in a spending category is treated as money already spoken for in the month it's due: - expected — an unpaid bill due this month counts at its usual amount from the start of the month, before the charge arrives - paid — once the payment lands it counts at the actual amount, on the date it was paid - late — a bill that wasn't paid within its usual window keeps counting in the month it was due until it's paid - settled — the cycle was covered without a payment of its own being matched to it: by a payment outside its usual window, by a payment you later split, or by a later cycle's payment. nothing more is owed for it a category's detail panel lists the month's bills under these headings — late , today , tomorrow , this month , paid , and settled — and the pace chart's tooltip shows the bills paid, expected, or missed on any day. what committed bills do to your numbers - the row's bar extends an outline past your spending for the bills still due, so you can see how much of the budget they'll take. - the month's status counts them: if what you've spent plus the bills still due would exceed the budget, the category reads as over before the charges arrive. - the pace guide steps up by each bill's amount — on the day it was paid, or, while it's still due, on the day it's expected an unpaid bill due today or earlier is placed on tomorrow, or on the month's last day if that comes first — so paying a bill doesn't show as running ahead of pace. - with hide recurring on, the summary removes recurring payments from spending and the committed amount from the budget, leaving your discretionary picture — see tracking your spending pace. bills count only in spending categories that are included in the budget. a payment you exclude from the budget drops its bill for that cycle, and a bill that stops charging stops being expected. money is set aside for bills that come less often than monthly a monthly bill is owed by the month it lands in. a bill that repeats every three months, six months, or year is different: the month it lands in can't absorb it alone, so the budget has to build up between occurrences. when the bill's category has roll over unspent budget turned on, zypper works out how much of the carried balance has to be held back for the bill to be covered on its due date, and shows it as a reserve : - the row's bar marks the reserved amount as a zone at its end. - the bar's budget label, the remaining pill, and the panel's equation all state the budget after the reserve — it's money you shouldn't spend on other things. - hover the piggy-bank term in the equation for the bills it covers: $x due mar 15 , or $x late since feb 1 for a missed cycle still being held. the reserve only exists while rollover is on and its since-month has been reached. without rollover there's nothing to hold back, and the panel points that out when a non-monthly category overspends: "this category's budget doesn't roll over, so only $x was available this month." if you're behind — the balance you've built up is less than the next bill needs — the reserve can exceed what's available, and the pill reads $x short instead of remaining. that's the early warning that the next bill won't be covered at the current amount. for flex categories the reserve comes out of the shared budget's carried balance, never more than that balance, toward the members' next non-monthly bills. a non-monthly budget stands in for a bill zypper hasn't detected if you budget a category every three months, six months, or a year and zypper hasn't yet detected a bill of about that size in it, the budget itself is treated as the bill: a charge in the category around the budgeted amount is counted as the recurring payment, and carried balance is held toward the next one. this reserve never exceeds the balance you've actually built up, so it can't warn you that you're short — only a detected bill can. once a bill of about that size that repeats less often than monthly is detected, it takes over. common questions can i skip a bill for one month? not yet. a bill you've canceled stops being expected once it stops charging; to drop it right away, remove its recurring group on the recurring page. if the category is budgeted every three months or longer, its budget keeps standing in for the bill see above until you change the category's frequency to monthly. why did last month's late bill disappear from this month? a missed bill stays on the month it was due and shows as late there. it's only carried into later months — as "late since" in the reserve — when it repeats less often than monthly in a category that rolls over, and only until the next cycle of that bill comes due or is paid. a bill was paid, but the panel still shows it as expected. the payment has to belong to the recurring group. if it arrived under a different name and wasn't matched, select it on the transactions page and assign it to the group.

Recurring bills in your budget

How Zypper identifies subscriptions and bills, predicts upcoming payments, and counts them in your budget

Recurring & subscriptions

recurring transactions and bill tracking how zypper identifies subscriptions and bills, predicts upcoming payments, and counts them in your budget zypper finds your recurring payments automatically as transactions sync, zypper identifies recurring groups — subscriptions, bills and utilities, recurring income, and credit card payments — from the pattern of your actual transactions. you don't enter bills by hand; they surface on the recurring page as they're detected, and we'll notify you when new ones are identified. what you see per recurring group - the frequency — weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly, every 2, 3, or 6 months, yearly, and more - the next expected payment and amount, predicted from the pattern - the status — active, inactive, or overdue expected but not seen - the spending history for that subscription or bill over time we can also notify you before an expected payment arrives — manage that in notification settings. bills count in your budget bills in your spending categories count against your budget in the month they're due — before they're paid — and appear in the category's detail panel on the budget page as late, expected, paid, or settled. for bills that come less often than monthly, zypper sets money aside between occurrences when the category rolls over. see recurring bills in your budget. keeping the list accurate rename a group if the merchant name is cryptic, and use remove recurring group on a group that isn't really recurring — its transactions stay, but they stop counting as a detected bill in your budget. one exception: a category budgeted every three months or longer keeps treating charges of about the budgeted size as its bill until you switch the category's frequency to monthly — see recurring bills in your budget. if a subscription you canceled stops charging you, its group goes quiet — a useful confirmation that the cancellation stuck.

When refunds are available on Essentials and credit plans

refund policy when refunds are available on essentials and credit plans essentials plan if you're on the essentials plan, we'll refund your most recent charge on request — just contact support from the email on your account. refunds apply to the most recent charge only, and canceling stops any future billing see plans, pricing, and billing . plans with credit report access for plans that include credit reports like premium credit , refunds are reviewed case by case . when zypper retrieves your credit report, the credit bureaus charge us for that report at the moment it's delivered — that cost is incurred on your behalf and can't be recovered. because of it, charges on credit plans generally can't be refunded once a report has been delivered for the billing period. that said, if something went wrong — you were charged in error, or you paid and never received your report — contact support and we'll make it right. stopping future charges a refund and a cancellation are separate things: canceling your plan stops future billing at the end of the paid period, whether or not a refund applies. you can cancel anytime from your dashboard settings.

Carrying what you don't spend into the next month, choosing where the balance starts, and reading the rollover figures on the budget page

rolling over unspent budget carrying what you don't spend into the next month, choosing where the balance starts, and reading the rollover figures on the budget page rollover carries what's left into the next month by default each month starts fresh: a category's budget is the amount you set, and whatever you didn't spend last month is gone. turn on roll over unspent budget for a category and the difference carries forward instead, so the amount available grows until you use it. this suits categories that are lumpy rather than steady — car repairs, gifts, annual renewals — where a single month's amount doesn't mean much on its own. choosing a cadence longer than a month every three months, six months, or a year turns rollover on for you, since the budget has to accumulate between occurrences. turning it on 1. on the budget page, hover the category and click the gear edit category 2. turn on roll over unspent budget 3. choose rolling over since — the month the balance starts accumulating from. any month from the current one back to two years ago can be chosen 4. optionally enter a starting balance — anything you'd already set aside for this category before that month, so a mid-cycle setup begins partially funded 5. click save the row's subtitle now reads rolls over , and a rollover chip appears beside the amount box. flex categories don't have individual balances. their rollover is set on the shared flex budget instead — see flex spending. how the balance is calculated the balance is worked out fresh every time the page loads, from the rolling over since month up to the month before the one you're viewing: the starting balance, plus each month's budget, minus each month's spending. nothing is saved as a running total, so it always reflects your transactions as they stand today — recategorizing an old transaction, or excluding one from the budget, changes this month's balance too. overspending carries as well. spend more than the budget and the balance goes negative, reducing what's available next month until you make it up. refunds add back. months before you first gave the category an amount count as a $0 budget , so a since-month set earlier than that counts the spending in those months against nothing. use the starting balance to seed what you'd saved before you started budgeting instead. reading the rollover figures - the rollover chip beside the amount box is green when the balance carried into the month is positive and red when it's negative. hover it for the month's equation: the balance from last month or the starting balance in the first month , plus the month's budget, minus what's spent and anything reserved for upcoming bills, equals what's remaining . - the amount box still shows the amount you set for the month; the balance is added on top. when both the month's amount and the balance are positive, the row's bar draws the balance as its own segment after the month's amount; otherwise the bar is a single track, and a negative balance shrinks its budget. - the category's detail panel shows the same equation in full: rollover + month − reserve = total budget . - the summary card's equation shows the total rollover across all your spending categories and the flex shared budget, including starting balances. - a group's budgeted total includes the balances carried into the month, so it can differ from the sum of the amounts in its rows. pace with a rollover balance a carried balance isn't treated as spendable on day one. for pace purposes it's spread across the month with the rest of the budget: a category carrying $300 into a month with a $400 amount is on pace at $350 spent on the 15th of a 30-day month, not on the 1st. turning rollover off starts over turning roll over unspent budget off clears the since-month and starting balance, and the balance the category had carried is gone from the figures. turning it on again later starts from the current month with an empty starting balance — it doesn't resume where it left off. structural changes reshape the balance because the balance is recalculated from history, changes to a category's shape apply to every month at once, past ones included. archiving a category removes it from every month's totals. turning flex budget on moves the category's whole spending history into the flex shared budget, whose own balance is refolded, while the category's rollover settings are kept inactive for when it leaves flex. excluding a category from the budget removes it from every month the same way, and takes a flex category out of the shared budget. each dialog says so before you confirm. after a change like this, check the balances involved and adjust a starting balance if needed. common questions why did the balance in a past month change? the balance is derived from your transactions and settings rather than saved, so anything that changes those months — a recategorized transaction, an exclusion, an amount changed from an earlier month forward — changes every balance that builds on them. why does the panel say "only $x was available this month"? that hint appears on a category budgeted every three months, six months, or a year that doesn't roll over and has spent more than the month's share. without rollover, each month only has its monthly equivalent — turn on rollover to save up between months. can the starting balance be negative? no. if you were behind when you set up rollover, set rolling over since back to cover the months you overspent and the balance will reflect them.

Dividing one transaction across categories, and linking transfers between accounts

splitting and linking transactions dividing one transaction across categories, and linking transfers between accounts splitting a transaction one charge often covers more than one thing — a superstore run that's part groceries, part household. splitting divides a transaction into parts, each with its own amount and category , so your budget and reports reflect what the money actually went to. the parts always add up to the original amount, and you can un-split later. linking transfers when money moves between your own accounts — a credit card payment, a savings transfer — both sides show up as transactions. linking them tells zypper they're one transfer, not income and spending , so they don't distort your cash flow. zypper links these pairs automatically; if two transactions were linked in error, you can unlink them from the transaction's details.

What people who pay for another money app get when they switch, what counts as a receipt, and how the receipt is checked

switching from another money app what people who pay for another money app get when they switch, what counts as a receipt, and how the receipt is checked what you get when you switch if you pay for one of the money apps below, you can try zypper for longer before paying. claim the offer on our switching page for that app, upload a receipt for it when you sign up, and: - essentials starts with 90 days free instead of the standard 7. you add a card to start the trial, and nothing is charged until it ends. - premium credit has no free trial, so it's 50% off your first 3 monthly bills instead. on yearly billing, the same amount comes off your first year. the offer covers the apps with a switching page, and a receipt for any other app doesn't count: - monarch money — see switching from monarch money - ynab — see switching from ynab - rocket money — see switching from rocket money - copilot money — see switching from copilot money - origin — see switching from origin the offer is for new customers : your household can't have had a zypper subscription before. for plan prices, see plans, pricing, and billing. claiming the offer and uploading your receipt the offer starts from the claim 90 days free button on the switching page for your app. signing up any other way doesn't bring up the offer. 1. on the switching page, click claim 90 days free and create your account. 2. after the sign-up questions, onboarding asks for your receipt, naming the app whose page you claimed on. choose a pdf or a screenshot, or drop the file in. 3. the check takes a few seconds. when it passes, the step shows your receipt checked out , and you continue to the plans: essentials shows the 90-day trial, and premium credit shows its discount. 4. pick a plan and check out. the trial or the discount is applied at checkout. you can skip the receipt for now and come back to it from the plan step, which keeps a switching from monarch money? note with the way back. what counts as a receipt any of these works, as long as it shows a payment for one of the apps above dated in the last 12 months : - a receipt, invoice or billing email from the app - an app store or google play receipt for the app - the charge on your card or bank statement a free-trial confirmation or a $0 invoice doesn't count, since neither shows a payment. the file can be a pdf , or a png, jpg or webp image, up to 4 mb . each receipt can claim the offer once , so a receipt that has already been used won't be accepted again. if your receipt isn't accepted the plan step tells you why right away, and you can try another file. the usual reasons: - the file doesn't show a payment, or shows a free trial or a $0 invoice. - the payment isn't for one of the apps the offer covers. - the receipt has no date, or it's more than 12 months old. - the receipt has already been used for the offer. - the receipt couldn't be verified. the original pdf, or a clearer screenshot, usually works better. if you try several files in a short time, you may need to wait before trying again. you can always pick a plan without the offer instead, or contact support. how your receipt is handled your receipt is checked automatically, and zypper doesn't keep the file . we keep only what the check read from it, like the app, the date and the amount, and a fingerprint of the file, so the same receipt can't be used twice. when the offer ends after 90 days, essentials continues at its regular price unless you cancel before then, and a trial you cancel before it ends is never charged. on premium credit, your bills return to the regular price after the first 3 months. you can cancel anytime from settings › billing. common questions can i get 90 days free on premium credit? no. premium credit has no free trial, so the offer takes 50% off its first 3 monthly bills instead, or the same amount off the first year on yearly billing. does the offer combine with a friend's free month? no. if you signed up through a friend's referral link, a receipt that checks out replaces the free month from it. do i need to cancel my current app first? no. keep it running while you try zypper, and cancel it whenever you're ready. the offer only needs a receipt from the last 12 months, so a receipt from before you canceled works too. can i bring my data from my old app? zypper doesn't import files from other apps. connect the same banks and cards instead, and zypper asks each one for up to two years of transactions, so your recent history fills in on its own — see connecting your bank accounts. to keep a full copy of your history, download your transactions from your old app before you cancel it. i signed up without clicking claim. can i still get the offer? yes, as long as your household hasn't subscribed yet. open the switching page for your app while you're signed in and click claim 90 days free , and onboarding asks for your receipt before the plans. can i claim the offer after i've subscribed? no. the receipt has to be uploaded during onboarding, before your household's first subscription starts.

tracking your spending pace what the budget page's summary, colors, remaining amounts, and pace chart tell you, and how to read a category's detail panel the summary shows the month at a glance the card at the top of the budget page — spent this month , or spent in month when you're viewing another month — adds up every spending category. the large figure is what you've spent, and the pill beneath it counts down from the month's total budget: - $x remaining — what's left to spend this month - $x over — you've spent past the month's total budget - $x short — the month's budget is below zero before any spending: the reserve for upcoming non-monthly bills is larger than the budget, a negative rollover balance has used it up, or, with hide recurring on, the bills committed this month exceed it; see recurring bills in your budget hover the pill to see the two figures it's the difference of: the month's budget and what you've spent. green, orange, and red mean on track, ahead of pace, and over every spending bar and pill on the page uses the same three states, judged for the whole month rather than for today alone income rows have no pace, so their pills stay green : - green — on track. spending is at or below where it should be this far into the month. - orange — warning. you're ahead of pace, but by no more than a quarter of what you'd be expected to have spent by now — or this month's bills and reserves together add up to more than the budget. - red — over. you've spent past the budget, your spending plus the bills still due this month would exceed it, the budget is short above , or you're more than a quarter ahead of pace. pace is measured against the part of the budget not already committed to bills, spread evenly across the month: on the 10th of a 30-day month, a third of it is expected to be gone. rollover balances carried into the month are spread the same way rather than being spendable on day one. once a month is complete, only the final totals matter. the pace chart the summary chart draws your cumulative spending through today against a dashed pace guide. the guide is the part of your budget not committed to bills, spread evenly across the month; each recurring bill steps the guide up on the day it's paid, or, while it's still due, on the day it's expected an unpaid bill due today or earlier is placed on tomorrow, or on the month's last day if that comes first , so paying it doesn't look like running ahead. hover any day for that day's spent and pace figures, how far over pace or under pace you were, and the bills paid, expected, or missed that day. over pace on the chart compares you with the guide on one day; over on the pill means you've exceeded the whole month's budget. it's normal to be over pace mid-month and still end the month under budget. open display settings the gear on the summary card to switch between the line chart and a bar , which shows the month as a single bar with a tick marking how far through the month you are. hide recurring focuses on discretionary spending display settings also has a hide recurring toggle. turn it on and the summary shows only your discretionary, non-recurring spending: recurring payments come out of the spent figure, and the amount committed to bills — paid, still expected, or late this month — comes out of the budget. a dot on the gear reminds you the toggle is on. the equation under the chart shows how the total budget was reached in either mode: any rollover balance, the month's budgeted amount, and then either the reserve for non-monthly bills with hide recurring off or the committed recurring amount with it on — labelled adjusted recurring when a reserve is folded into it . hover any term for detail. each category has a detail panel click a category row to open its panel. for a budgeted spending category it shows the spent amount and remaining pill, a pace bar with a tick at today's position, the spent figure from the row, and the month's budget figure — the amount you set plus any rollover balance, minus any reserve. income panels show what you've earned instead a variable income category shows just that, with no pill or bar , and a flex category's panel shows the shared budget — see flex spending. categories that roll over show their rollover equation, and categories with recurring bills list the month's bills — late , due today or tomorrow , later this month , paid , or settled . below that are two tabs. transactions lists the month's transactions in the category. activity records budget changes — amounts set, rollover turned on or off, flex turned on or off, exclusion, and archiving — so you can see what changed and when. finding categories type in search categories or press ctrl+f / ⌘f to filter the list; the number of matching categories appears beside the box. archived and excluded categories sit under show n unbudgeted at the bottom of their group. common questions why is the pill red when the chart line hasn't crossed the guide? the status looks at the whole month, not just today: if what you've spent plus the bills still expected this month would exceed the budget, the month reads as over before the charges arrive. with hide recurring on, a bill that's already been paid past the budget can also turn the pill red while the discretionary chart looks calm. why does the pill say "short"? the month's budget is below zero on its own: the reserve for upcoming non-monthly bills is larger than the budget, a negative rollover balance has used it up, or, with hide recurring on, this month's committed bills exceed it. raising the amount, or catching up on the rollover balance, clears it. see recurring bills in your budget. why do income rows say "extra"? income counts up rather than down: $x remaining is what you still expect to earn this month, and $x extra means you've earned more than you budgeted. why doesn't "spent this month" match "spending this month" on the dashboard? the dashboard's spending this month card is a cash flow figure: it counts all money out, including card payments and transfers the budget leaves out, and it counts refunds as income by default. see why spending and budget totals differ.

Automatically categorizing and editing transactions as they arrive

transaction rules automatically categorizing and editing transactions as they arrive rules edit new transactions for you a rule watches transactions as they sync and applies your changes automatically. if you keep making the same fix by hand — recategorizing a merchant, tagging a bill — a rule does it for you from then on. what a rule can match on any combination of merchant, category, account, amount, and keyword . for example: merchant contains "netflix", or amount is exactly $9.99 in a specific checking account. what a rule can do set the category , rename the merchant , add tags , set the budget impact , mark the review status , or assign to a savings goal. managing rules rules live in settings › rules . they run in order from top to bottom — drag to reorder when two rules could match the same transaction and you want one to win. edit or delete a rule anytime; rules apply to transactions that arrive after the rule exists.

Troubleshooting report loading errors and bureau identity verification

troubleshooting credit report loading and identity verification troubleshooting report loading errors and bureau identity verification why this happens to show your credit report, the credit bureaus must first verify your identity. if your report won't load, it's almost always one of these: - identity verification didn't complete — the bureaus couldn't match your details - a detail doesn't match bureau records — name, address, date of birth, phone number, or ssn entered differently than what the bureaus have on file - a temporary error at the bureau — occasionally their systems have hiccups what to try 1. refresh your browser and try again — temporary errors often clear on retry. 2. re-verify your identity from your dashboard, making sure every detail is 100% accurate and matches your official records: full legal name, current address as it appears on file with lenders, and correct date of birth and ssn. 3. use your own phone number. verification can involve your phone — a number that isn't yours or a work/voip line can cause failures. fixing details entered during signup if you mistyped your phone number or another detail during signup and verification now fails, contact support — we can reset your verification so you can go through it again with the correct information. verification attempts are limited for security, the bureaus limit how many verification attempts you can make in a period. if you've used all attempts, you'll be able to try again after a waiting period — contact support if you're stuck.

Declined payments, pending charges that disappear, and cards that won't go through

troubleshooting declined or failed payments declined payments, pending charges that disappear, and cards that won't go through the most common cause: your bank declined the payment if you tried to pay or reactivate your subscription from your billing settings and the app still says you need to subscribe, the payment almost always didn't go through — most often because your bank declined the transaction, even if your banking app shows a pending charge. about that "pending" charge: when a card is declined after authorization, the pending transaction in your banking app disappears on its own, usually within 24 hours. the money was never actually taken. what to do - try a different card. this resolves the vast majority of cases. - try paying through cash app. if your credit or debit card won't go through directly — or through apple pay or google pay — add the same card to cash app and choose cash app as your payment method at checkout instead. payments made this way sometimes succeed where the direct card payment was declined. - call your bank. ask them to allow the transaction — declines for online subscriptions are often the bank's fraud filter, and they can approve it on their end. - check your email address. if your payment succeeded but you still see a subscribe screen, you may be logged in with a different email than the one you paid under — see signing in to zypper. confirming what happened if a payment truly succeeded, you'll receive a receipt by email from zypper. no receipt usually means no successful charge. if you have a receipt and still don't have access, contact support and we'll fix it.

Why cash flow's spending total can differ from your budget's spent figure, and the settings, refunds, transfers, and exclusions behind the gap

why spending and budget totals differ why cash flow's spending total can differ from your budget's spent figure, and the settings, refunds, transfers, and exclusions behind the gap cash flow and your budget define spending differently zypper reports what you've spent this month in two places, and each uses its own definition of spending: - cash flow counts all money out. the spending this month card on your dashboard and the expenses total on the cash flow page are cash flow figures. - your budget counts spending in your spending categories, minus refunds. the budget this month card on your dashboard and spent this month on the budget page are budget figures. the two totals can differ even when every transaction is categorized correctly. a gap usually traces back to a few transactions: a card payment, a refund, a transfer, or something excluded from the budget. cash flow counts all money out, filtered by your settings cash flow counts every categorized transaction that moves money out of an account in zypper: purchases, bills, and transfers alike. budget settings don't apply to cash flow, so a transaction, category, or account that's excluded from your budget still counts there. three settings change what cash flow counts. they're behind the gear cash flow settings at the top of the cash flow page, and the dashboard's spending this month card follows them too: - show transfers has a switch for each transfer category: transfers , credit card payments , balance transfer , and cash advance . all four are on by default . turning one off removes that category from cash flow, for money in and money out. - hide account movements is on by default . it hides money moved between your own accounts once zypper has linked the two sides of the transfer. a transfer whose other side isn't in zypper can't be linked, so it still counts. - net refunds against spending is on by default . while it's on, a refund that zypper has linked to its original purchase reduces that purchase's category instead of counting as income. your budget leaves out excluded and non-spending activity your budget's spent figure adds up your spending categories for the calendar month. it leaves out the following, which cash flow still counts unless your cash flow settings hide them: - excluded transactions — any transaction whose budget impact is set to excluded from the budget - excluded and archived categories — every transaction in a category that has exclude from the budget turned on or has been archived. on the budget page, these categories are under show n unbudgeted at the bottom of their group. - accounts outside the budget — only checking, savings, and credit card accounts with include in the budget turned on count toward your budget - transfer categories — transfers , credit card payments , and the other transfer categories never count as budget spending, linked or not - savings goal purchases — a purchase with a savings goal set counts toward that goal instead of its spending category if hide recurring is on in the budget page's display settings , recurring payments come out of the spent figure as well, on both the budget page and the dashboard's budget this month card. see tracking your spending pace for what that toggle changes, and excluding transactions from your budget for how exclusions work. money in under a spending category reduces only budget spending your budget subtracts money that comes back from what you've spent: - a refund that zypper has linked to its original purchase is subtracted from the purchase's category. - money in that's categorized under a spending category, such as a store return categorized as clothing & accessories , is subtracted from that category. cash flow subtracts linked refunds the same way while net refunds against spending is on, which it is by default. money in that's categorized under a spending category counts as income in cash flow either way, so the original purchase still counts in full toward spending this month . turning off net refunds against spending makes cash flow count linked refunds as income too. a payment to a card outside zypper counts only in cash flow a credit card payment has two sides: money out of your bank account and a payment received on the card. when both accounts are in zypper, zypper links the two sides automatically, and hide account movements keeps them out of cash flow. your budget never counts card payments, since the purchases on the card count when you make them. when the card isn't connected, the payment has no other side to link to. cash flow counts it as money out under credit card payments while your budget leaves it out, so spending this month comes out higher by the payment amount. money you send to another person, or to an account you haven't connected, works the same way when it's categorized as transfers . to close this kind of gap: - connect the card, so its payments can be linked and its purchases count in both totals - turn off credit card payments or transfers under show transfers if you don't consider those payments spending - recategorize any payment that's really a bill. a bill categorized as a transfer, such as an insurance premium categorized as credit card payments , is left out of your budget until you recategorize it. finding the transactions behind a gap the cash flow page lists the month's income and expenses by category, and clicking a row shows the transactions behind it: 1. under expenses , look for transfer categories such as credit card payments and transfers . your budget doesn't count them. 2. under income , look for spending categories. your budget subtracts money in under a spending category from spending. if net refunds against spending is off, look for refunds too, since your budget subtracts linked refunds. on the budget page, show n unbudgeted at the bottom of a group lists its excluded and archived categories. to check a single transaction, open it from the transactions list and look at its category, budget impact , and savings goal . common questions which total is right? both are. cash flow shows all the money that left your accounts, and your budget shows the spending you track against your plan. use cash flow to see where money went, and your budget to see how you're doing against it. can i make the two totals match? you can bring them close. turn off credit card payments and transfers under show transfers , and leave net refunds against spending on. turning off a transfer category also removes money coming in under it from income. anything your budget leaves out on purpose, such as excluded transactions, categories, and accounts, still counts in cash flow. why does my partner see a different spending total? cash flow settings and the budget's hide recurring toggle are saved separately for each person in a household. if your partner has changed them, the same transactions produce different totals on their dashboard. why is the budget total a whole number? it's rounded. budget this month and the budget page's spent this month show whole dollars, while spending this month shows cents, so a gap of less than a dollar is rounding. do pending transactions count? yes, in both totals. a transaction counts as soon as it arrives, whether it's pending or posted. does spending in a category with no budget amount count? yes. your budget counts spending in every spending category that isn't excluded or archived, including categories you haven't given an amount.
